The fill-weight constraint

A capsule of a given size holds a certain volume, which corresponds to a fill weight that depends on the density of the blend. That fill weight is the ceiling: the actives plus any excipients have to fit within it. A high-dose active, or several actives together, may simply not fit in a single capsule — pushing you to a larger capsule size or to more capsules per serving.

So capsule formulation is a packing problem as much as a dosing one. The software has to know the capsule size, the blend density, and the resulting fill capacity, and check that the formula fits — rather than discovering at filling that it does not.

The serving may be one capsule or several, and the label declares what the serving delivers. If a dose does not fit in one capsule, going to two per serving is a legitimate answer — but it has to be modelled, because it changes the serving, the panel, and the container count.

The shell counts too

The capsule shell is not neutral. It may be gelatin or a plant-based alternative, which bears directly on suitability claims — vegetarian, vegan, halal, kosher — and on allergens. The shell is part of the product the consumer takes, so its material has to be part of the formula's data. Holding the shell as an ingredient means suitability claims are answerable from the formula, and a shell choice that breaks a claim is visible immediately.

The panel from elemental content

As always, the panel declares what the actives deliver, calculated from their elemental and active content, not their raw salt weight — per capsule, scaled to the serving. The blend's non-active components appear in the ingredient list but are not the dose.
